Our Team

Financial security planning is about more than preparing for retirement. It’s about working to achieve short- and long-term goals, and helping protect the most important things in your life.

Bill Clunas, CD, CFP®, FMA, EPC
Certified Financial Planner®
Bill Clunas | Desjardins Financial Security Independent Network | London ON

I am licensed for Life and health Insurance and mutual funds in the Province of Ontario.

The ultra-high net worth investors have had the benefit of coordinated financial planning for years. However, the middle class and middle-class millionaires who need holistic planning the most have not benefited from this same level of service. Being the most vulnerable to economic and legislative changes, the stakes are considerably higher with the risk of running out of money due to poor planning, particularly in retirement.

By creating the holistic plan, you will optimize all assets to work collectively towards your goals, while also reducing critical inefficiencies, including:

  • Gaps in coverage
  • Overlap or overexposure in investments
  • Tax inefficiencies and missed savings opportunities
  • Failure to identify and reach your goals to provide the income you need throughout your lifetime
  • Communication disconnect as you work to align various strategies between many professionals
  • Improper or inconsistent investment strategies, or missing essential legal documents that can cost your loved ones significant time and money in the event of death or disability

Bill is happily married to Mindy and they are proud parents of 2 enthusiastic children, Ryan and Jenna. Away from the business he enjoys working on his golf game, spending time with his family, travelling and has been an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve since 1996.

In addition to volunteering his time Bill has held numerous positions on the Board of Directors for many local non-profit and charitable organizations.

Michael Fox
Group Retirement Specialist
Michael Fox

As a Group Retirement Specialist, it is not my function to ‘stock pick’ like a Bay Street active trader; it’s my job simply to define, and explain the difference between, equity and fixed income investments, and how those two fundamental building blocks coalesce, when in the appropriate proportions, to create the best portfolio for each plan member’s needs.

Fortunately for those of us who are group retirement plan advisors, we don’t even have to perform the task of blending that asset allocation in the building of those investment portfolios. That very heady work is done for us by the highly educated and seasoned brain trusts which make up the fund management teams for the investment options in group programs. I’m just there to explain that. I’m an educator.

I help plan members access funds from their RRSPs to buy a home through the Canada Revenue Agency’s HOME BUYERS PLAN or go back to school through its LIFELONG LEARNING PLAN. I’m a facilitator.

Michael and his wife Susan have five grown children, and five not-so-grown grandchildren. They live in Stratford where Susan is a prominent realtor in the community, and Michael is an active member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Stratford. Gardening is Susan’s passion. Watching Susan garden is Michael’s.
